The following links/sub-pages can be used to help give you a head start with preparing for the A Level Music Course.
You are encouraged to look through the Specification summary, as well as the Pre-A Level advice and aspects of Music Theory which it will be useful for you to brush up on! The Areas of Study are:
- Area of Study A: The Western Classical Tradition (compulsory)
- Area of Study B: Rock and Pop (optional)
- Area of Study C: Musical Theatre (optional) - we normally opt for this Area of Study
- Area of Study D: Jazz (optional)
- Area of Study E: Into the Twentieth Century (choose between this and Area of Study F) - we normally opt for this Area of Study
- Area of Study F: Into the Twenty-first Century (choose between this and Area of Study E)
First up is to revise your knowledge of Form (or Structure), especially Sonata Form, which will be an important part of your work on Area of Study A: The Western Classical Tradition.
